(Austin, Texas, November 11, 2021)Afia, a Mediterranean food company driven by a mission to make food powerful, continues to expand national retail availability, adding another 116 stores. Heavily concentrated on the West Coast, new retailers include Nugget, Gelson’s, Haggen, Metro Market and HuckleBerrys. With the addition of these stores, Afia’s multiple flavors of frozen falafel are now in the freezer section of more than 1,700 stores nationwide.

In 2021, Afia has seen a growth surge in terms of national retail distribution, up more than 100% percent year-over-year. Last month, they announced distribution partnerships with Publix and Sprouts. Afia’s retail availability can be found online.

“I am confident that shoppers in California and the Pacific Northwest will really connect with our vegan, gluten-free falafel made with whole ingredients,” says Founder and President Farrah Moussallati Sibai. “We are excited that we are able to increase access and make Afia more convenient to pick-up at your favorite local grocery store.”

Made with authentic Mediterranean ingredients, Afia’s food changed the perception that the frozen food aisle is where overindulgence and shortcuts come in, and health and nutrition see themselves out. Afia uses only quality whole ingredients, free of any preservatives and additives. Everything Afia produces is to Halal standards, and they made careful consideration to introduce several gluten-free and vegan options, knowing how important these areas are for shoppers.

From launch, Afia has been committed to its mission beyond simply being a food company. In addition to regular donations to local food banks, Afia supports their local community of refugees through employment and mentorship.

About Afia

Afia, which means “to your health” in Arabic, is a Mediterranean food company headquartered in Austin, Texas, driven by a mission to make food powerful. Founded by Farrah Moussallati Sibai, who had resettled in Texas after enduring great personal tragedy and loss in Syria, Afia’s products infuse the meals of her past with modern flavors. Using her mother-in-law's little black book of old Syrian family recipes, Moussallati Sibai began selling Afia’s signature frozen falafel and kibbeh at one farmers’ market in 2017. Afia proudly became one of H-E-B’s Supplier Diversity Supplier of the Year award recipients and a Chobani’s Incubator brand, both in 2019. Afia now offers six different SKUs at more than 1700 locations nationwide and online. Afia is dedicated to nourishing the community through more than food. Beyond regular donations to local food banks, Afia is committed to supporting their local community of refugees through employment and mentoring.
